 Shopping Tips

*Shops mostly in touristic places which  usually sell  fake goods work without price labels , these shops are very opened to bargaining.

*Before buying something check the prices offered in similar shops and get an opinion about average price of  the product you want to buy.

*If it’s possible find a local who you can trust and go together shopping. ( Be carefull of the local people who wants to take advantage over your buying. )

* don’t talk to sales people who are inviting you or stopping you on the way to their shop. Those guys are very insisting and  convincing even to make you shopping when you don’t want to.

* Try to go for shopping early in the morning when the shops are about the opened. This will help you to get the things you want to buy for a cheaper price while the Turks believe the first customer of  the day brings luck and abundance in the rest of the day.

* You can either go very late when the shops are about to close shop owners would love to sell something more at the end of the day to increase their income.

* Try anything you buy on spot and check the quality and excellence of the products.

*Opening and closing times of shops in Turkey changes accordingly to districts;

  •  If you are in a tourist spot shops in summer are opened usually from 09:00 a.m until 00:00 yet winter times shops in tourist areas are opened at 10:00 a.m and closed around 16:00 – 17:00 .
  • If you are not in a touristic place shops are opened around 08:00 a.m- 09:00 a.m and closed between 20:00-22:00 .
  • Shopping malls are opened at 10:00 and closed at 22:00
  • Local markets are started to be set and get ready around 08:00 a.m and finish 18:00-19:00 in the evenings.

*You can try bargaining in local markets and touristic shops where the electronic selling systems and price labels  are not available.

* In Turkey shops do not have a break ( siesta ) during the day like in Italy , Greece  or Spain etc. Shops are opened all day long.

* Definetely ask for the receipt (fiş) of what you buy.

*Be carefull not to excess the  weight limit for the planes or count the weight of the things you buy.

buying in Turkey
never show your intention for buying in Turkey once you show it, sly sellers will sell the thing you want without any bargain and discount.
